Physical therapy

Physical therapy is a treatment system that uses the effects of various physical phenomena on the human body. The role of physical therapy and its stimuli is to induce desired changes and thereby relieve difficulties.

At Rehab Klinik Bratislava, our specialized physiotherapists will provide you with the following types of physical therapy and electrotherapy.

Pulsed magnetotherapy

Therapeutic use of the biological effects of a magnetic field – in magnetotherapy it is used either as a constant, alternating or pulsed field. In practice, various electromagnetic devices are used, which mainly produce a pulsed magnetic field of a certain shape, frequency and intensity. Applicators in magnetotherapy have the shape of hollow solenoid cylinders or a ring shape, flat applicators or two-piece stand applicators. Magnetotherapy is suitable for post-traumatic pain, chronic inflammatory conditions, painful vertebrogenic syndromes. Absolute contraindications: people with a pacemaker, hyperthyroidism, myasthenia (pathological muscle weakness), bleeding conditions of any origin, malignant tumors, active tuberculosis, viruses, pregnancy. Relative contraindications: seizure neurological diseases, severe atherosclerosis, menstruation, etc.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound works by converting electrical energy of high-frequency currents into heat and mechanical energy in the irradiated tissue. It is a longitudinal mechanical wave with a frequency of 0.75-3 MHz and an intensity of up to 3W/cm2. The basic application form is continuous or pulsed application. Contact of the device head with the tissue must be maintained with a contact medium, paraffin oil or conductive gel. Ultrasound has an analgesic and dispensary effect, in which the gel turns into a liquid component, which improves resorption and improves blood circulation with increased metabolism and accelerated regeneration. Ultrasound is applied to a specific problematic area. Indications for applying ultrasound therapy are: Chronic inflammatory diseases, all types of osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis, coxarthrosis), vertebrogenic problems, scars, injuries.

TENS currents

TENS is a modern type of electrotherapy, designed to alleviate and eliminate chronic and acute back, limb and joint pain without side effects, treat circulatory disorders, strengthen and tone weak muscles, increase muscle mass, local weight loss, treat cellulite and massage. The principle of TENS currents is to stimulate nerves and muscles with alternating electric current of different frequencies and courses. It supports the course of physiological processes in tissues, relieves pain, affects blood circulation and metabolism, relaxes or stimulates muscles and relieves swelling.

Interference currents

The great advantage of this type of electrotherapy is that it does not burden the skin but easily penetrates deep into the body thanks to the capacitive properties of the tissue. It works on the principle of using the interference of two medium-frequency currents directly in the tissue, with one circuit having a constant frequency and the other optionally fluctuating.

It acts directly on muscles, nerves, improves blood circulation and tissue nutrition. The effect is mainly due to vasodilation, analgesia and tissue toning. They are very suitable for chronic inflammatory, degenerative and rheumatic diseases, neuralgia, etc. The effect is mainly due to vasodilation, analgesia and tissue toning.
Contraindications: Parkinson’s disease, inflammation of the veins, skin infections, pacemaker, metal implants, pregnancy.

Laser therapy

This type of therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional therapies. It is suitable for the following areas: analgesic therapy, rheumatology, sports medicine, orthopedics, dermatology. Laser is one of the procedures from the group of light therapy. Laser therapy uses the biostimulating effect of the beam, acting as a trigger mechanism to accelerate tissue regeneration and activate cell activity. Laser treatment is indicated mainly for diseases of the muscles, bones, joints, tendons. Contraindications to laser therapy are for patients with pacemakers, pregnant women or epileptic patients.

Thermotherapy

Thermotherapy (heat treatment) uses the effect of heat to maintain and improve health or just for relaxation purposes. We use heat and cold packs, which have been used for 20 years. It is aimed at reducing muscle tension and pain. It is applied to the treatment of muscle tone, back pain, rheumatism and other areas where dry radiant therapeutic heat is indicated. Thermotherapy has an analgesic effect where heat relieves pain. It also has a resorptive effect, where the absorption of metabolic metabolites improves. Thermotherapy is often used to increase blood circulation in the body, where the supply of defense substances occurs, thereby stimulating the immune system.
