Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy deals with the treatment, prevention and restoration of mobility and body functions through physical methods and exercises. The purpose of physiotherapy is to help patients improve mobility, reduce pain, restore lost functions and promote physical fitness.

Physiotherapy procedures can include manual techniques, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy, and more. It is beneficial for people with chronic pain, after injuries or surgeries, but also in preventing recurring problems and injuries.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation are often considered synonymous, but in reality they have different focuses.

  • Physiotherapy focuses primarily on restoring the musculoskeletal system and functions through specialized techniques and exercises, while rehabilitation encompasses a broader spectrum of activities and therapies.
  • Rehabilitation aims to comprehensively restore a person’s physical, psychological and social abilities after an injury or illness, and may also include occupational therapy, speech therapy or psychotherapy. Physiotherapy is therefore part of rehabilitation, but the opposite is not always true. Rehabilitation covers the entire process of returning to a full life, where physiotherapy represents only one of its specific components.
